New beastly router deserves an equally awesome new network name.

Microsoft has become the rich parents of the kid no one likes (XBone), so they keep buying it nice things that it clearly doesn’t deserve (exclusives) just to get the other kids to play with it.
[Side Note: Don’t take this as any Sony bias. The PS4 was the first Sony system I ever purchased at launch. I’ve had a 360 since launch & was a die-hard Xbox fan. The technophile in me just couldn’t get behind the XBone for $100 more with slower system memory & an embedded HDD. Then post launch, the lowered resolutions & frame rates only reinforced my decision. And don’t even get me started about Don Mattrick—good riddance. I really want the XBox to do well, but there’s just nothing to bring me back to it as of yet.]

This just in: Crystal Dynamics makes terrible decisions.

The next Tomb Raider is an Xbox exclusive, Crystal Dynamics explains why

Rise of the Tomb Raider, the next game in the reboot of the storied franchise, will be an Xbox exclusive, Microsoft corporate vice president Phil Harrison announced at Gamescom today.

The game is coming Holiday 2015 exclusively to Xbox, he said. It’s unclear how long that exclusivity will last.

From gamerssphere.com:

The PS3 version of Tomb Raider sold more than the 360 version. The numbers: 1.71 million to 2.22 million. That’s a 500,000 copy difference or roughly 30% sales difference. Throw in the 270,000 PC copies sold, and you’ll see that of the total 4.2 million copies of Tomb Raider that were sold, roughly 245% more copies were sold on PC and PS3 than on 360, or roughly 2.5 times as many.

Looking at Definitive Edition sales, we see that about 170,000 of them were XBone sales while 460,000 were PS4 sales. We’re looking at sales roughly 270% or 2.7 times higher on the PS4 than X1…that’s a big number! If we add up all sales for the two editions among the five consoles, we see that Xbox sales are roughly 1.88 million, all other sales are around 2.95 million for a grand total of 4.83 million copies. If I’ve done the math right, that means that a paltry 39% of Tomb Raider sales were on Xbox consoles… yikes.

So I hope Crystal Dynamics collected more than the game was worth from Microsoft in order for them to snag this exclusive for all the Bros out there to not play on the XBone.

I knew they were cutting major sales, but I didn’t know the numbers were like THIS. Bad decision indeed.

Yeah, any perceived Console Wars aside, the only way it makes good business sense is if Microsoft paid a FORTUNE for this property. Otherwise, it’s just another bad decision in a long list of bad decisions from a company that isn’t doing so hot these days.

First impressions of PlayStation Now after installing the beta & playing Dead Island: Riptide for an hour or so: This is gonna be amazing!

I was worried at first when I ran into some choppy video and the occasional popup saying my connection was too slow (even though it passed the test before getting started), but it all smoothed out and I couldn’t tell that I wasn’t playing from a disc at all.

The First Edition’s “Just Dropped In” on the main screen gives Stick It To The Man cool points!

Is a game truly “nextgen” when it’s still offered on the last generation of systems? If feels more like a nextgen port to me when developers & publishers do this.

This just in: Watch Dogs most likely will not be running in full HD on the XBone (but you should all be used to that by now).
