This is seriously one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. I believe this was Grant Morrison’s first American work (please correct me if I’m wrong), and it set the stage for a brilliant career. Animal Man was the beginning of Morrison doing what he does best—making you give a shit about characters you forgot about or never knew existed.

Director Neil Marshall spoke to Collider about CONSTANTINE (and other topics), but what struck a nerve with geeks was this:

COLLIDER: Can John Constantine smoke on TV?

MARSHALL: No we’re not. It’s the one thing, a compromise I guess. On network it’s the one thing you can’t smoke on network. That’s one of his character traits. We’re working around that. We’re trying to get aspects of it in there as much as possible. We’ll see.

A couple of things I’d like to point out here. First off, look at the way he answered the question. He seems to be conscious of this being an issue, so that’s a good thing. It’s always nice when creators know their source material. Second, Marshall is only directing one episode—the pilot. There could be much more the he may not be aware of storywise & they could bring the lung cancer in as a flashback/backstory as well as John being cured by the Lords of Hell.

All hope is not lost.

AMC Confirms Development of Preacher With Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg

The greatest comic series of all time is FINALLY coming to the small screen.. on a network that respects the medium & knows how to do drama & dark comedy right.

Bill Willingham’s Fables. Such an amazing series. If you aren’t reading it already, what wrong with you?

Getting a friend hooked on Fables would be an excellent thing to do this holiday season.. in fact, you’d be doing them a favor! Especially if they’re fans of Once Upon a Time, Grimm, Beauty & the Beast (I think I just threw up in my mouth a little), or fairy tales in general. Let them see how good the genre can be when it’s done right!

If you can’t get them through your LCS, Amazon has great prices on these deluxe hardcovers, naturally:

"This is the one story that we never got to tell," Gaiman told The New York Times today. "In SANDMAN #1, Morpheus is captured somehow. Later on in the series, you learn he was returning from somewhere far, far away - but we never got to the story of what he was doing and what had happened. This is our chance to tell that story, and J.H. Williams III is drawing it. It’s the most beautiful thing in the world.”

Fables, DC/Vertigo’s long-running and acclaimed comic book series, is being targeted for the big screen.. so when do we start the Peter Dinklage For Pinocchio campaign?!

I’ve wanted to see him in that role since ABC optioned the series for a pilot back in 2008!

This has (I refuse to use past tense) the potential to be the best Batman tale since Morrison.

Gerard Way shared via twitter the cover and his sketches for a Batman book he pitched to DC Comics back in 2008 for Vertigo. His commentary follows:

  • “Cover art to an approved DC comics proposal for a “Vertigo” Batman limited series.Never got to write it. Sadface.”
  • “So theres no confusion-there’s are from a comic I pitched to DC the year Gab and I won the Eisner. Drawn prior to CW or DXD, at home in LA.”
  • “I’m Mr. Freeze! I like to dress up as my dead wife in armor I sculpted out of scrap-metal from her car accident!”
  • “Just got busy is all. Dan and Ian at DC were crazy supportive of the project but my life took a different turn at the time.”
  • “Robin is great but I can’t find the scan. He’s more subdued because he’s the only person in the book that isn’t nuts.”
  • “There was no Harley in the book. And Catwoman was very strange.”
  • “Joker was also the youngest character in the book, about 19. A year or two younger than Robin.”
